Nava Abel was raised in Bat Yam, Israel. She finished
high school at Wizo School of the Arts in Tel Aviv and later continued
her studies at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland,
CA.
Nava's paintings
combine realism with an Oriental influence. Using a variety of media,
such as oils, acrylics, watercolors and colored pencils, she paints on wood boards
and canvas, specializing in large-scale realistic portraits.
The inspiration
for her paintings are her personal world and the people which are close
to her; family, friends, and the female nude.
In addition
to fine art painting, Nava has been transcribing and illustrating Ketubas
and illuminated manuscripts for the past 15 years. Working with gouache
on locally handmade paper, her style incorporates Middle-Eastern art and
encompasses both traditional and Egalitarian Jewish
manuscripts.
Today, Nava
works and exhibits her paintings out of her studio in Zichron Ya'akov,
Israel. Her murals can be seen in many homes, businesses and historic
landmarks around town.
